This user guide will provide you with essential information about diverters, including their definition, different types and when to use them.
What is a Diverter?
A diverter is a plumbing device used to redirect the flow of water from one outlet to another. It is commonly used in showers, taps, and other fixtures to control the flow between different water sources or outlets.
Different Types of Diverters:
Three-Way Diverter: This type of diverter allows you to switch the water flow between two shower outlets, typically a showerhead and a handheld sprayer. It has three ports: one for the on/off water supply and the other outlets are to direct water to different shower components. Our 3-hole thermostatic valve always offers two outlets (for shower and hand shower) which means both can be opened simultaneously without the use of a diverter. But if you need a third outlet, a diverter can be used.
Two-Way Diverter: This diverter enables you to switch between two shower outlets, usually a showerhead and a bath spout. It has two ports: one for the water supply and another to control the water flow between the two outlets. Our 2-hole thermostatic valves has one outlet so a diverter helps to provide an additional outlet if needed.
Single-valve or T diverter: This diverter pulls straight up from the bath tap and when you push the handle down, it opens the flow of water to the bath spout.
When to Use a Diverter:
You may need to use a diverter in the following situations:
Switching between Shower and Bath: If you have a combined shower and bath setup, a diverter is used to switch the water flow between the showerhead and the bath tap.
Using Multiple Showerheads: In shower systems with multiple showerheads or body sprays, a diverter allows you to select which showerhead(s) to activate.
Using a Hand Shower: If you have a handheld showerhead in addition to a fixed showerhead, a diverter is used to switch between the two.
Directing Water to Sprayer: In kitchen or bathroom taps with sprayer attachments, a diverter is used to redirect water from the main tap to the sprayer.
